Studio Breakfasts
The Studio hosts a programme of monthly special breakfasts, where a small group of invited guests from across the art world come to the studio at 8am and gather around a table full of breakfast food to listen to an expert guest share insights on a particular topic. The talk is followed by lively discussion between the group and time to tour the studio.
Previous speakers have included:
Hugh Belsey, expert on Thomas Gainsborough, who talked about his recently published catalogue raisonné of the artist’s work, focusing on particular highlights that weren’t in previous catalogues
Charlotte Bolland, Senior Curator, Research and 16th century collections at the National Portrait Gallery, sharing the ‘Making Art in Tudor Britain’ project, a massive multi-disciplinary research project exploring early painting practice
Michel Ceuterick, art historian, exploring the symbolism in a painting by Jacob Jordaens, talking us through his assessment that the painting is not just a genre scene as widely perceived but “acts as a billboard-sized pamphlet” with layered meaning
Ben Lewis, art critic and documentary film-maker, revealing the key points in his bestseller ‘The Last Leonardo’
Georgina Adam, art market expert and journalist, providing insights about factors impacting the art market, with a focus on Brexit
Bendor Grosvenor, art historian and presenter on the BBC4 programme Britain’s Lost Masterpieces, leading a discussion about connoisseurship and bringing up the next generation of art historians.
Guests at recent breakfasts have included senior curators from national collections including the National Trust, the Royal Collection Trust, the National Portrait Gallery, the National Gallery and the Courtauld, as well as senior representatives from major auction houses, galleries, insurance companies, law firms, and private collectors.
