We were delighted to treat this portrait of an unidentified lady by Joan Carlisle. Our treatment revealed the artist’s palette of colours and greater detail in particular in the background to the left of the sitter.

This picture was acquired by Tate in 2016, the earliest work by a female artist to join the Tate’s collection. Its acquisition made international news at the time: here in the UK, the Guardian reported on it, and overseas the acquisition was reported on by the New York Times - and of course Bendor himself wrote about it on his blog.
