This canvas measuring 150 x 100 cm had been stored rolled up, and then had been squished. The paint was crushed and flaking along the lines where the rolled-up canvas had been squashed. The image in raking light shows the extent to which the surface of the paint was raised.

We lined the picture, which brought the raised flakes of paint back into plane. It was an amazing result: the edges of the raised paint came down onto the canvas so smoothly that only very minimal retouching was required, along some of the joins of the former cracks.

The smooth plane of canvas originally intended by the artist can now be enjoyed again.
